Debbie Stoery
Glenbrook North valedictorian (’70) and Northwestern University alumnae
(’75), Debbie Stoery became the youngest coach to ever pass the highest
rating of the Professional Skaters Association by achieving the Master
Rating in Figures & Freestyle in 1976.
She was the youngest coach on the US International Team in ’80,
’81, and’83; and is one of a few coaches in the world to hold three of
the highest ratings since she passed the Master in Choreography & Style
in 1989 and the Master Rating in Moves in the Field in 1997.
A recognized leader in utilizing sports science developments to
maximize the progress, health and safety of
her students, Debbie chaired the PSA Sports Science Committee for
five years, was the first coach on the six member board of the US Figure
Skating’s Sports Medicine Society, and currently serves on the PSA
National Education Task Force.
In over 35 years of teaching, Debbie has coached students to qualify for over 30 World/Jr. World/Internationals, over 30 US National/Jr. Natls. and 26 Midwestern Sectionals—producing over 200 medalists from the Regionals, Sectionals and Nationals to the Junior Worlds (’82 & ’01), as well as thousands of top three placements in USFS non-qualifying competitions. In 2000, she was the only American singles coach of two US National Champions, and followed that distinction by becoming the only American singles coach with students in Junior Worlds and Senior Worlds in 2001. Known for having had a significant impact in the development of USA Olympians Caryn Kadavy (’88), Nicole Bobek (’98), and Evan Lysacek (’06), she has had great satisfaction in seeing her students meet with success and fulfillment in their academic, professional and personal lives.
Kori Ade
Kori merges her background in skeletal biology and biomechanics with her
passion for skating and dance to develop athletes with the "complete
package". She holds a B.S. from Loyola University Chicago in Skeletal
Biology, and as a Hip Hop Dancer/Choreographer, has worked for music
industry and corporate clients including McDonalds, Sears, and Seventeen
Magazine.
Kori has worked for 10 years in the Chicago area, coaching students at 6 Junior National Championships. She is a PSA Senior Rated Freestyle Coach is an AFFA and F.A.S.T. Certified Off-ice Trainer, and is a National and International Coach and Choreographer. She is on the coaching staff at Ice Castle International Training Center in Lake Arrowhead, CA. and is the founder of CitySkate Outreach. Kori is creator of TAPS (Total Athlete Performance Seminars) aimed at the development of the "whole" athlete, and host of "Inside the Skating Circle" at www.skatingcircle.com
Cindy Watson Caprel
I have been coaching for 39yrs. My personal
accomplishments as a skater include the Juvenile, Novice, Jr, and Sr.
Sectional Gold Medals. A National pewter medal was my best effort.
Internationally I was ranked 6th.
I have coached National Medalists from Juvenile to Sr.
Deanna Stellato was Juvenile and Intermediate Jr. National Silver
Medalist; National Novice Champion; Jr. Worlds Silver Medalist, Jr Grand
Prix Champion; Skate Canada 5th place. Tom Cierniak was Novice Men
National Champion, Jr. Worlds Bronze Medalist, and 8th at Sr Men
Nationals. Tracy Ernst was Jr. Ladies National Silver Medalist, Jr.
Worlds 4th place
I am very proud of a long list of local skaters that have been very
successful with their skating, and have gone on to be very strong,
successful people in their chosen fields. I am still passionate about
the sport of figure skating and I'm still excited to work with skaters
who are energetic and hungry to learn.
Maria Jezak-Athey
Maria is a former Polish
National Pairs Champion, competed on the ISU International circuit
including at European Championships and qualified for the Olympics. Her
professional show experience includes three years touring with the Ice
Capades. She has 28 years of coaching experience, has a level VI PSA
ranking and was trained under the direction of World and Olympic coaches
